And then I closed my eyes.

She stepped back, turned around, and that’s when she left my life.
Got in the side of her car
Turned the engine on, rolled the window down
And that’s when she waved goodbye

And I remember feeling the blood rush from my face while the weight of the wind kept my hand at my side, and though I tried, I wanted to, I never waved back goodbye.

Please believe me, there was nothing more that I wanted in that moment of time - had I known it would be the last time I’d see you alive, I would have found some strength inside.

Maybe I was scared? Maybe I didn’t get the weight of you leaving town?In the back of my mind I thought that I’d see you again someday.

I wept when I heard the news, and thought back to that day and your smile and how it shined, maybe next time I’ll remember to say goodbye...
